  Indice utilizzato in qualità di strumento sottostante per un contratto derivato, per esempio un indice di mercato azionario sottostante a contratti future e option. Si assegna un valore convenzionale per ogni unità di indice in base al quale viene calcolato il pagamento finale poichè non è possibile consegnare materialmente i titoli.
